Grade 1 Robotics and Coding Term 1 (PDF)
Main Themes:
- Order and Patterns:
– Develop learners’ understanding of logical order, pattern recognition, and how these apply to instructions and sequences. - Symbolic Representations:
– Use symbols to represent actions and instructions, including directions and repetitions. - Problem-Solving and Debugging:
– Build problem-solving skills by identifying and fixing errors in instructions. - Creative Design:
– Encourage creativity by allowing learners to design and describe how robots and computer devices work. - Digital Citizenship:
– Raise awareness about digital safety, such as protecting personal information and developing healthy screen time habits.
Focus Areas:
- Logical Thinking and Sequencing
- Use of Repetition
- Robotics and Coding
- Integration with Stories
- Design and Functionality
Lesson Plan Format:
(Includes 10 lesson plans)
• Topic/Theme: The focus of the lesson.
• Objective: Skills and outcomes to be developed.
• Resources: Materials needed to conduct the lesson.
• Activity: Detailed instructions for carrying out the lesson.
• Assessment: How the learner’s progress and understanding will be evaluated.
Please note that the Robotics lesson plans are unplugged. This means the activities do not require computers, tablets, or any other electronic devices. Learners use paper, pictures, cards, blocks, dance movements, and other physical resources to explore concepts such as coding, sequences, repetition, and robotics.
Although there are references to digital skills and concepts like “input–processing–output,” these ideas are taught through play-based and thinking activities — not through the use of digital devices.
