- Single Letters: Learns letter-sound and letter-name relationships.
- Consonant Digraphs: Practices sh-, ch-, th-, wh- sounds at the beginning and end of words (shirt, wish, think, chirp).
- Vowel Digraphs: Works with digraphs like oo, ee, ea, ai, oa, ay.
- Multiple Spelling Choices: Learns different ways to spell sounds (play, pain, plate; feet, key; boat, blow).
- Long Vowel Sounds (CVCe): Practices vowel-consonant-e patterns (like, smile, note).
- Rhyming Words: Identifies and uses rhyming pairs (cat-hat, sock-rock).
Word Work
- Sorts words in alphabetical order.
- Identifies and breaks words into syllables (bas-ket).
- Creates and understands compound words (sunflower, toothbrush).
- Forms plurals (cats, boxes, babies, wolves).
- Matches synonyms and antonyms (words with similar or opposite meanings).
Grammar & Punctuation
- Uses linking verbs like am/was, is/was, are/were.
- Practices punctuation: capital letters, full stops, commas, question marks, exclamation marks, and inverted commas.
- Learns apostrophes for contractions (can’t, they’re) and possession (Sipho’s book).
- Recognizes and uses contractions (he’s, don’t, we’re).
Writing Activities
- Writes simple instructions (how to bake cookies).
- Writes paragraphs of at least 8 sentences about daily experiences or creative ideas.
- Uses present, past, and future tenses correctly.
- Practices subject-verb agreement (The boy runs fast.).
Reading & Comprehension
- Reads stories and answers comprehension questions.
- Practices sight word sentences for fluency (She likes to play.).
