Term 2 Content (Book 4, 5, 6)
- Consonant Digraphs: Recognizes sh, ch, th, wh sounds (shirt, when, wish).
- Vowel Digraphs and Spelling Choices: Works with ow/ou (cow/sound), aw/au (saw/haul), and ie/igh/y (pie/high/fly).
- Digraphs Making /f/: Practices ph (elephant) and gh (laugh).
- R-Controlled Vowels: Focuses on ar, or, ur, ir sounds (carve, storm, first).
- Long Vowel Sounds (CVCe): Practices vowel-consonant-e patterns (lake, home, smile).
- Rhyming Words: Matches rhyming pairs (light-night, mind-find).
Word Work
- Breaks words into syllables (play-ground).
- Forms compound words (toothbrush, sunflower).
- Differentiates homonyms (bat as an animal, bat in cricket).
- Identifies homophones (knot/not, sea/see).
- Practices plurals (boxes, wolves, babies).
- Correctly uses articles (a, an, the).
- Matches synonyms and antonyms.
Grammar & Punctuation
- Identifies nouns, adjectives, verbs, and adverbs in sentences.
- Uses linking verbs (is/was, are/were) and introduces helping verbs (can, should, will).
- Practices apostrophes for possession (the cat’s toy) and contractions (we’re, don’t).
- Applies punctuation: capital letters, full stops, commas, question marks, exclamation marks, and inverted commas.
Writing Activities
- Writes creative stories of 10 sentences with a beginning, middle, and end.
- Writes descriptions in 7–8 sentence paragraphs (my favorite holiday).
- Keeps a one-week diary, noting weather and reflections.
- Writes a simple book review (title, author, opinion).
- Creates instructions (how to recycle).
Reading & Comprehension
- Reads stories like The Dog and His Shadow and Nelson Mandela’s Life with comprehension questions.
- Practices sight-word sentences to build fluency (He likes to play.).
- Enjoys poems and riddles to improve vocabulary and thinking.
Speaking & Listening
- Participates in oral presentations, like Show and Tell.
- Develops listening skills through riddles and jokes.
