Term 1 lesson plans (100% CAPS-aligned)
My Klaskamer’s Grade R Coding & Robotics lesson plans for Term 1 build a strong foundation for computational thinking – in a playful, developmentally appropriate way.
This package is specifically designed for Grade R learners and follows a structured, repetitive teaching model that helps young children think logically, follow instructions, and act safely in a digital world.
What do learners learn in Term 1?
Learners develop understanding of:
• What is coding? (Get – Think – Do)
• Sequence and instructions
• Simple AB patterns
• Moving safely on a grid (body-coding)
• Stop – Ask – Tell (digital safety)
• Breaking a task into small steps (decomposition)
• What is a device?
Everything is presented practically and concretely — no technology overload.
How do the lessons work?
Each lesson follows a fixed structure:
• Clear lesson objective and learning outcomes
• CAPS competencies (correctly referenced)
Practical lesson flow in three phases:
1. Body-coding (move and experience)
2. Floor / concrete activities
3. Paper activities
4. Closure and reflection
Learners first learn with their bodies, then with concrete materials, and finally on paper. This progression ensures deep understanding and confidence.

The planning is very creative. It is easy to understand, with such a cute way to explain coding and robotics to the kids. I love the story. Thank you for making Robotics fun and easy.
