My Klaskamer’s Grade R Coding & Robotics lesson plans for Term 4 bring together the skills developed throughout the year in a practical, playful, and developmentally appropriate final term. Learners use what they have already learned in Terms 1, 2, and 3: simple arrow plans, robot movement, patterns, devices, digital safety, and fixing errors.
This package is specifically designed for Grade R learners and focuses on concrete, unplugged learning. Learners continue to work through movement, mat activities, and worksheets, but now begin to show more confidence in how they make, test, improve, and explain plans.
Term 4 helps learners understand that robots, devices, and plans do not work “magically” — there is always an instruction, a plan, an action, and sometimes an error that needs to be fixed.
What do learners learn in Term 4?
Learners develop a deeper understanding of:
• Technology versus IT devices
• Robot helpers and how robots can help people
• Creating and testing simple arrow plans
• Finding and fixing errors in plans
• The maze rule: slide until you stop
• Get – Think – Do as simple input, processing, and output
• Smart devices that must first receive an instruction before doing something
• Recognising, completing, and using patterns
• Robot parts such as sensors/eyes, arms, wheels/feet, and body
• Home robots and factory robots
• Secret messages and simple picture codes
• Stop – Ask – Tell for digital safety
• Screen-time balance and responsible choices
• Planning, testing, and improving a final robot mission
Everything remains concrete and practical: learners move, look, choose, test, improve, and explain.
How do the lessons work?
Each lesson follows a fixed, simple structure:

The lessons continue to follow the important do-first learning pathway:
Body → Floor Grid / Concrete → Paper
Learners therefore first experience the concept with their bodies, then practise it concretely on the mat or floor grid, and only then complete the worksheet. This sequence keeps the learning developmentally appropriate and helps learners truly understand the concept before applying it on paper.
